Lesser God
Most of the people if not all will remember how there was huge cry when the trees next to MG road(Bangalore ) had to be cut to make way for the Metro. Then the government bowed to the pressure of environmental groups and shifted the old trees to some other place… great I said people should not destroy greenery in the name of modernization… but when I was travelling to home this Weekend I saw huge trees were axed to expand the highway. And I asked my mom if nobody had protested and my moms answer shocked me.. she said its just a tree.. ya when we were kids those were the same trees which we used to run under when it rained and wait for our bus..it was like a big grand old grandpa taking care of us. It had become a place where people met and talked about everything under the sun, I bet just like me there would have been so many who waned that tree to be there…but then why did nobody protest.. is it because it was not that important ,why if the government is willing to spend so much for the MG road trees why not for these trees … are these trees the trees of a lesser god. Just because it was not in a HiFi place doesn’t it have the right to live… what sort of a state is this.. one tree make's headline and front page news and in another place they are cut without any resistance.. ya what can the trees do.. its we who should have done something ..this started me thinking.. isn’t it the same for everybody ..A NRI doctor is arrested in Australia, the whole Indian Government is ready to help him, a techie is murdered in Bangalore its big news people say how inefficient the police is and in four days in a small town near Mangalore (Kasargod) 4 people die in the name of communal violence.. nobody cares.. except may be the people who love them… like how I care for that tree which I loved and is no more now :( …
